A review on a post on Internet Security from My-Ecommerce blog

I am reviewing the post of unauthorized tapping into home WIFI – teenager is facing a jail term which posted 15 Feb. It’s a surprise for me to know that tapping into the other’s home wireless network connection may end up in the jail, because base on my knowledge, there are many people doing such things including many of my friends.

In my opinion, the main reason of government to restrict laptop user tapping into other’s wireless network connection is because if the person who tapped in other’s WIFI do some illegal things and the police get involved, the police will trace it back to the person who has the internet access, but not to the person who has done the offense. So as the owner of the connection, he or she will get in trouble for that.

I’m quite sure that many people out there do not know that tapping other’s WIFI service is a serious crime nowadays, so they are actually doing this, even though they have never met the person or visited the company supplying it. So who is responsible for secure the wireless access? Police or the owner? In my opinion, the owner of the wireless service has to responsible to secure their own wireless access to prevent freeloaders and hackers from abusing their internet connection. They shouldn’t leave the doors wide open in their house, so why they allow it with their internet access.

What can the owner of the wireless service do to prevent freeloader and hacker? They should change their wireless router’s default password, which can be something obvious as “password”, to something that hackers cannot guess. They can also configure their router to allow wireless access only to devices they know about.

After all, please bear in mind that don’t simply tap into others’ wireless service or you’ll get in trouble.
